Last fall, a monarch “did it’s thing” on the fence right by my front door. At fist, I viewed the caterpillar with suspicion. Watched every day, and did manage to see it emerge from the chrysalis. Dry off, exercise wings, take a couple of test flights. And then go… Moral of the observation? Don’t pull out the milkweed that grows in your yard.
Perhaps they just open their wings to potential, and let the wind take them where the fates allow.
