Probably the prettiest patch of light in my new home is in the darkest corner, high up where I can’t really get to it. That sort of irony seems to go without saying, doesn’t it? Nonetheless, the daffodils belong there. It’s not all luminous petals and dancing in the breeze, you know. They are on serious business. Daffodils need to fill themselves with enough water and food to fuel the offspring clinging to their roots for nourishment, and to sleep safely through the winter of 2015 – and they have to perform this feat with just a few weeks’ worth of whatever the sun and rain deliver to them. Don’t underestimate the Daffodils – not for nothing do they claim the title “Hardy.”
